Engineer of the Moment: Doug González, P.E.


This month's "Engineer of the Moment" is Doug González, P.E. An Associate Partner at LERA, Doug was recently elected President of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) for the 2016-2017 term, having previously served in the roles of Secretary and Director. The 500-member-strong chapter aims to "advance the art of structural engineering in New York by improving the flow of ideas and building the community of colleagues."

Doug is an expert in the design of healthcare and science facilities, having served as Project Director for the structural design of the Almaty International Medical Center (AIMC) in Kazakhstan, the Novartis Oncology Building in East Hanover, NJ, the NYU Medical Center Energy Building, the Tisch Hospital Tower and a new major hospital expansion for the NYU Langone Medical Center.

He also has extensive experience in the renovation and modification of existing structures, consisting of adaptive reuse, historic restorations and structural upgrades. Currently, he is responsible for the oversight and coordination of several ongoing historic preservation and adaptive reuse projects, including the Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial in Manhattan's Riverside Park.

Previously, Doug has been at the helm of many award-winning cultural and civic projects, most notably the Newseum and Freedom Forum (District of Columbia), the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Expansion (New York) and the Apollo Theater (New York).
