"Train Station in the Forest" | Jiaxing Train Station

LERA was the structural engineer for a new 3.55 million-sf (330,000-sm) train station located in the center of Jiaxing, dubbed the “Train Station in the Forest.” Expanding an existing station to six lines and three platforms, the project involved rebuilding the historic train station while creating a new infrastructural annex underground, new plazas to the north and south and the rehabilitation of the adjacent People’s Park. The reconstructed station was built with 210,000 red and green bricks made of mud sourced from a nearby lake.

A “floating” metal roof hovers above the expanded site, equipped with solar panels that power the station.
