Mass Timber Expertise

LERA is currently the lead structural engineer for more than $12 billion and 50 million sf of construction worldwide. Sustainable design practices are a major factor in our structures, including mass timber design. We have the capability to enable structural designs for all building types according to applicable sustainability standards and requirements in order to achieve LEED, Indian GRIHA and/or IWBI WELL Building Standard certification. LERA has 30+ LEED certified projects worldwide, including five LEED Platinum projects in the U.S.
LERA has designed numerous structures that have incorporated mass timber and other timber elements. Mass timber is engineered for high strength ratings like concrete and steel, but is significantly lighter in weight, allowing for lighter overall structures. It is an environmentally friendly substitute for carbon intensive materials and building systems. Our mass timber experience includes the new Environmental Studies + School of Engineering and Applied Science (ES+SEAS) academic complex and the renovation and expansion of Dillon Gym at Princeton University; the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame Expansion in Cleveland; the Idlewild Park Nature Center for NYC DPR in Queens; the Hawaii Preparatory Academy Energy Lab in Hawaii; the Metro Green Apartments in Stamford, CT; and more. Currently, we have numerous active mass timber design projects across the United States.
