Nordstrom, 1776 Broadway

Nordstrom’s new 320,000-sf (30,000-sm) flagship store near Columbus Circle in Manhattan spans four buildings, and features a wavy glass façade facing West 57th Street. LERA is structural engineer for the retail renovation project which consists of a main glass tower with seven floors of retail space, a restaurant and a striking central atrium that maintains the “landmark façade” of what was once 1780 Broadway.

New York City’s first Nordstrom store is located at the base of the new Central Park Tower, which is the world’s tallest residential building at 1,550 ft (472 m), and extends into three other adjacent sites with existing buildings dating back to the 1920’s. LERA’s designs include a complete façade replacement, a new elevator a feature staircase. Occupied spaces remained in use while the store renovation work happened on several floors.
