Hunts Point Youth Center

The Hunts Point Youth Center is a performance space, gallery and education center situated at Julio Carballo Fields. The building occupies the space that had once been part of a public park. A landscaped area in front of the building includes a series of trees which respond to the surrounding context.

The 10,000-sf (930-sm) project contains an indoor volleyball/basketball court, a performance stage, an elevated running track and a computer room. The building features an exposed, arched roof structure and skylight. Completed as part of an on-call contract with the NYC Department of Design and Construction, this project was honored by the New York City Art Commission for excellence in civic design.
