Etihad Park | New York City FC

Etihad Park will be the first-ever soccer-specific stadium in New York City and will be the future home of New York City FC. New York City FC is privately financing the construction of the 25,000-seat Etihad Park. Etihad Park will be the first fully-electric Major League Soccer (MLS) stadium and the first and only fully-electric outdoor venue in North America across all professional sports leagues.

LERA supported New York City FC’s vision for Etihad Park by assisting with the foundation structural design for the stadium. This new 25,000-seat will be the home for New York City FC of Major League Soccer, and will anchor a major redevelopment of Willets Point in Queens. LERA worked to develop a durable foundation design, as the site is located on reclaimed land that was historically part of Flushing Bay. The foundation consists of a pile-supported structural slab spanning the entire site.

This new 25,000-seat will be the home for New York City FC of Major League Soccer, and will anchor a major redevelopment of Willets Point in Queens.

The 610,000-sf (56,670-sm) stadium will set a new benchmark as Major League Soccer’s first fully electric venue in the United States. Its sustainable design incorporates features such as rooftop solar panels and a water reuse system for field irrigation.

Created to enhance both the fan experience and community connection, Etihad Park will include more than 40 private suites, three premium clubs and City Square, a lively public plaza for events and gatherings. The development will also feature retail, dining and office space, establishing a vibrant, mixed-use destination in Queens.

Etihad Park will also become New York City’s first purpose-built soccer stadium, and is part of the larger Willets Point redevelopment, which will deliver 2,500 affordable housing units, a 650-seat public school, a 250-room hotel, ground-floor retail and more than 40,000 sf (3,716 sm) of public open space. Alongside Citi Field and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Etihad Park will further establish Willets Point as the nation’s leading sports and entertainment destinations.
