NYC H+H | Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital
New Tower & Campus Renovation

LERA was the structural engineer for this new 11-story patient tower, which features a new Emergency Department and a state-of-the-art surgical suite, along with a comprehensive renovation of the former Coney Island Hospital campus, which was severely affected by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

As part of the scope of work, LERA provided resiliency designs to keep the hospital fully operational in the event of a storm surge that floods the entire first level of the campus, including a new permanent flood wall. To make way for the new facility, LERA also provided demolition drawings for the demolition of the existing Hammett Pavilion, Building 6 and Building 3 (Shops/MER Building), as well as the selective demolition of portions of the existing Main Building and Tower Building.
