Performing Arts Center Renovation

City University of New York | CUNY

LERA provided the structural design for major renovations to this 16,000-sf theater, built in 1971 and central to the Kingsborough campus. The program includes renovations to the auditorium, stage, lobby and backstage spaces; new theatrical equipment; and code and accessibility upgrades. The lobby will be completely transformed into a welcoming entrance for visitors, with a red “information box” serving as a focal point.

Inside the theater, new theatrical lighting and sound systems will modernize the Performing Arts Center and corrections to deficiencies in the rigging system will lead to safer operations for both theater professionals and students. In addition, new ADA-compliant restrooms will be installed and a new mezzanine section will extend the auditorium to 709 seats.
