This project consists of the value engineering and peer review of a pedestrian/bicyclist bridge with a main span of 325-ft over 10 lanes of Interstate 280 in Silicon Valley. It was originally designed as a concrete bridge but when the bids came in at over twice the budget, we were retained by the City of Cupertino to suggest alternatives. We proposed changing the main structure to steel and suggested other cost-saving details. Following the re-design, we peer reviewed the bridge for the City. It came in on budget at the re-bid. This is the first cable-stayed crossing over a freeway in California.
