Newseum and Freedom Forum

Washington, DC

The Newseum/Freedom Forum Foundation World Headquarters' occupies the last available site on Pennsylvania Avenue and is symbolically powerful due to its location between the White House and the Capitol Building. The new building features a primarily glass façade punctuated by a 60-foot-high plane of stone engraved with the forty-five words of the First Amendment. The freedom and presence of the press are reiterated through a large-scale media wall that can be seen from the street through the transparent glass encompassing most of the building. The Newseum will contain state-of-the-art interactive exhibition spaces designed in conjunction with Ralph Appelbaum Associates. The building will also include technologically-advanced black box broadcasting facilities, a 500-seat auditorium, a museum store, a "news cafe" with views of the US Capitol, a conference center with an outdoor terrace, a restaurant, and staff offices.
